System for Automation and Streamlined Check-in

The custom-designed QTir check-in system

Truck drivers arriving at the facility first park in the holding lot, where they then register their shipment at a self-service outdoor kiosk using a touchscreen. The registration interface is available in several languages and allows drivers to quickly navigate the registration process. Correct shipment classification and subsequent navigation are supported during registration through a combination of selecting options and entering the correct shipment details. After registration, shipments are entered into the system, from where they can be dispatched to specific locations (indoor parking lot, warehouses, offices). Calls are made via a large LED display located in the holding lot and via an SMS message sent to the truck driver’s cell phone. Once a truck is summoned to the facility (for customs clearance, loading, etc.), the driver receives an SMS message instructing them to move to a specific location. Upon arrival at the gate, the summoned vehicle is identified by a camera that records and reads license plates and is automatically admitted to the premises. All vehicles arriving at the facility are identified, and passage through the gate is automated, allowing entry only to authorized vehicles. Admission of other vehicles is handled on a case-by-case basis. Truck check-in is handled through the warehouse staff’s app, which is used for unloading, loading, and customs clearance of the cargo. The office module allows staff to summon a driver with a single button press to pick up customs documents, followed by another button press to instruct the driver to leave the premises. Instructions are again sent to drivers via text message, thereby preventing unwanted personal contact with drivers. Vehicles’ departure from the premises is monitored via cameras that record footage and read license plates; automated processes thus prevent vehicles from leaving before all necessary clearance procedures have been completed. All check-in steps are continuously recorded, and detailed logs are available to management as needed.
